IKHUMISENG IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION SPECIALIZING IN YOUTH ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING WHOSE FOCUS IS TO IMPLEMENT A HOLISTIC ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING PROGRAMMING PACKAGE DESIGNED TO EQUIP VULNERABLE YOUTH WITH THE ASSETS AND SKILLS THEY NEED TO NEGOTIATE LIVELIHOODS CHOICES AND HEALTH BEHAVIOURS THAT LEAD TO BETTER FINANCIAL AND HEALTH OUTCOMES.

YOUTH ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING

Ikhumiseng has taken on board the entire technical team that implemented the USAID/PEPFAR funded ASPIRES SA programme under Save the Children, now reconstituted as Ikhumiseng. ASPIRES SA was a 2.5 years response to the dilemma and desire to implement youth ES programming integrated with HIV prevention education to reach at-risk youth, but for whom livelihoods-oriented programming was new. This intervention has been implemented for the YW&Gā€™s programme under Global Fund from Mar ā€™18 to Mar ā€™19 in two of the districts in South Africa, identified as serving the most vulnerable communities of young women aged 19 ā€“ 24, being Zululand in KZN and Greater Sekhukhune in Limpopo and thru FHI360 in KwaZulu-Natal The ECONOMIC STRENGHTENING programme has five pillars that build the capacity of young people to believe in their own potential to create their own futures based on their aspiration

YOUTH ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING Programme

Financial Capability
Learning how to believe in yourself and your own potential to change behaviour and personal choices. It is called Impumelelo, success, and is intended to build the financial capability of the youth through the provision of financial education in combination with starting to save in either groups or individually. The beginning of financial independence which results in behaviour change and the provides a space for making different choices which can make significant differences in both health and sustainability.
Employability Skills Training
Essential soft skills for youth to be able to access jobs. How to aspire to the right job rather than any job. How to write a CV, how to get thru that interview including some of the tough questions, how to be a valuable employee treating the opportunity with respect.
Entrepreneurship Skills Training
Aims to equip and up-skill youth on how to start and successfully run a small sustainable micro enterprise. Where to get financing. How to do the research on the viability of the idea and the context. How to develop a business plan. How to get started.
Supporting Access to Tertiary Education (SATE)
Assisting youth to pursue relevant tertiary education opportunities and for those still at school, with subject choices to support their career aspirations. It is also about how to apply for tertiary education, including universities, TVETs and skill development courses, plus accessing educational funding.
Vocational Centres
Situated and established in the communities, with the purpose of providing opportunity for each youth that completes the earlier phases with on-going mentoring and support in order to utilize the skills gained to access to the job market, successfully develop new enterprises as well as access information and support with application for tertiary education. This done in partnerships with government and private sector institutions to strengthen services available at the centers
